Application Process

The Kern Medical Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program matches four PGY-1 categorical residents per year. We accept applications through ResidencyCAS. Only documentation submitted through ResidencyCAS will be reviewed.

2026 Residency Application Cycle

• Application Deadline: September 17, 2026
• Interview Invitations Sent: October 27, 2026
• All interviews are held virtually and occur between 8am and noon PST
• Applicants will have 48 hours to schedule their interview once the invitation has been sent. Scheduling will be done directly through ResidencyCAS.
• Interviews occur no earlier than November 2nd, 2026

2026 Match Application Review

Applications must contain the following to be considered:

• ResidencyCAS common application
• Personal statement
• Three letters of recommendation (one must be a SLOE)
• USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Step 1 scores
• Medical School Transcripts
• MSPE

Note: Our program only reviews applications that signal through ResidencyCAS

Virtual Meet and Greets with our residents are hosted during the interview season. Attendance at one of these sessions is highly encouraged.

Frequently Asked Questions

What licensure exam is required for DO applicants?

• DO applicants are required to submit COMLEX scores. USMLE scores will also be reviewed, but are not required for the application.

Is there a minimum USMLE or COMLEX score? What if I failed a USMLE or COMLEX exam?

• There is no minimum score cutoff and prior failure of an exam does not exclude an applicant. As long as the above criteria are met, your application will be reviewed.

Do you consider International Medical Graduates?

• Yes. An ECFMG Certificate is required and only J-1 visas are considered.

Do your offer second looks?

• No.

Should I send “thank you” letters after the interview?

• We respectfully ask that you not send “thank you” letters to the program or your interviewees.
