Kern Medical announces the results of Match Day, where hospital and medical students are matched for residency. This year two of Kern Medical’s new residents are natives of the Central Valley.
Kern County native and California State University, Bakersfield alum Nanse Mendoza has been successfully matched with Kern Medical as a resident.

Mendoza is an Emergency Medicine Resident from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, UCLA. Mendoza majored in Chemistry at California State University, Bakersfield.
Mendoza grew up in Lamont, where many of the residents are immigrants from Mexico. She witnessed her family and people in her community struggle to receive adequate medical care due to both linguistic and financial barriers. Nanse’s passion for the medical sciences combined with her personal and volunteer experiences has left her with a strong desire to become a physician in medically underserved communities similar to her hometown. Nanse is a former Kern Medical Research Assistant in the Emergency Medicine Department at Kern Medical. During her fourth year of medical school she completed a four-week rotation in our Emergency Medicine Department.

In addition to Mendoza, Kern Medical welcomes Central Valley native David Contreras. Originally from Modesto, CA Contreras is an Internal Medicine Resident from Ross University School of Medicine.

He attended CSU Stanislaus where he earned a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. Contreras rotated here at Kern medical during his third and fourth year of medical school. It was clear from the beginning that he is an aspiring physician and our senior faculty took notice of his desire and passion for medicine. The faculty immediately started to mentor him. David began working on research projects and became involved with mentoring other incoming students. David was offered a job in the Department of Medical Education as Junior faculty to mentor, teach and assist with the 140+ medical students.

Kern Medical’s new residents will begin on July 1st, 2018.
