Since 1934, Kern Medical has been training residents and
health care professionals in our community.
The mission of the transitional year residency program is to equip residents with the fundamental clinical skills necessary to improve the health and well-being of our community. Through hands-on learning and evidence-based treatment and decision-making opportunities, residents will acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to providing high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care in the specialty of their choice.
Program Aims:
1. Clinical Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes: The transitional year program provides a broad base of fundamental clinical skills experience across multiple specialties in the inpatient and ambulatory settings.
2. Scholarship: Faculty and residents will advance community health and innovation through participation in original research and performance/quality improvement projects.
3. Professional Growth: Faculty will mentor, coach, and teach residents through the use of structured didactics, formative and summative feedback, and graded autonomous practice.
4. Recruitment and Retention: The program aims to identify, recruit, and retain future specialty physicians into the underserved community.
