Alexandra W. Elias, MD

About Dr. Elias

Dr. Alex Elias was born in Atlanta, GA and is a graduate of University of California Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. After teaching 9th grade science at Oakland High School with Teach for America, she obtained her medical degree at University of California Davis. Her general surgery residency was at the Mayo Clinic Florida, where she was the chief resident. She completed her training with a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Advent Health Orlando.

Dr. Elias is the sole board certified female colorectal surgeon in Bakersfield, CA. She enjoys the breadth the colorectal field offers. She performs colonoscopies and treats patients with colon, rectal, and anal cancers, a variety of anorectal pathology, such as fistulae and hemorrhoids, gastrointestinal disorders, such as Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis, and sequelae of pelvic floor dysfunction, such as rectal prolapse and fecal incontinence. Dr. Elias teaches medical students and has a special interest in robotic surgery.

Dr. Elias lost her mother to cancer and gave birth to a son with gastroschisis. These experiences have helped Dr. Elias understand and empathize with her patients, and she treats patients as if they were her own family.

When Dr. Elias isn’t operating or playing with her two sons, you can find her on her peloton, on a run, in the water, or at a reggae concert.
