Tana Parker, MD

About Dr. Parker

Dr. Tana Sue Parker is a family physician with experience in treating underserved patients in community health settings who has also taught in the public schools.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Zoology degree from UC-Santa Barbara and her medical degree from the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana.  She completed her residency, with an emphasis on treating the medically underserved, at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. She has also received training at Clinica Sierra Vista.

At Pomona Valley, Dr. Parker’s UCLA-affiliated Family Medicine Residency provided accredited training that included weekly visits to a community health clinic. She worked with the faculty in preparing a curriculum that provides residents extra training in health care disparities, serving the homeless, and cultural competency.

Additionally, Dr. Parker completed a Family Medicine Clinical Observership at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine with rotations in addiction medicine, family medicine and pediatrics. Her bilingualism in English and Spanish proved to be a benefit in the program.

She has worked a substitute teacher in the Palm Springs Unified School District in kindergarten through 12th grade, with experience in special education and English as a Second Language. She also served as a research assistant in the USC-SB Ecological Parasitology Lab.

She is board-certified in Family Medicine and certified in Basic and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support. She holds a certificate from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement for completing the Patient Centered Medical Home Curriculum.

Dr. Parker is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.

In her free-time, Dr. Parker enjoys drawing, painting, sculpting, and designing jewelry, and plays flute and bass guitar. She also likes yoga, softball, soccer and swimming.
