Sarah G. Gonzalez, MD

About Dr. Gonzalez

Dr. Sarah Gonzalez, MD comes to Kern Medical from our Emergency Medicine Residency Program, with a background as an emergency technician, community volunteer, and Bakersfield native.

She previously worked as an Emergency Trauma Technician at UCLA Emergency Medical Center, assisting in a Level I Trauma Center performing a wide range of skills including patient care, electrocardiograms, splinting, post-mortem care, trauma team participation and patient monitoring. She trained newly hired technicians and helped develop the training program curriculum.

She also worked as Emergency Department Technician/Phlebotomy Education Skills Coordinator at the UCLA Center for Pre-hospital Care, where she supervised and coordinated skill building sessions. She assisted in curriculum design, lecture planning and implementation, marketing, and student evaluation.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Sciences from UCLA and earned a post-baccalaureate certificate from Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles. She received her medical degree through the CDU/UCLA Medical Education Program.

She is a member of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, American College of Emergency Physicians, and Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association.

Dr. Gonzalez received the Dr. Rebecca Lee Award for outstanding performance through academic achievement in the face of adversity; the CDU Research Recognition Award; the Dr. Robert Marshall Scholarship to UCLA; and the Charles W. Buggs Award from CDU, the College of Science and Health’s highest award, presented for an exemplary combination of compassion and academic excellence.

Dr. Gonzalez is a co-founder and vice president of a nonprofit Outreach Clinic in which physicians and students work in underserved areas, addressing health disparities and providing health screenings, education and awareness.

She also served as a group leader for Spring Into Health: A Health, Fitness and Family Fun Festival sponsored by the CDU Class of 2012 in South Los Angeles. She also was UCLA Student Co-Director for UCLA-USC Global Health Awareness Week (GHAW).
