Philip Karuman, MD,PhD

About Dr. Karuman

Dr. Philip Karuman is a Board-Certified General Surgeon at Kern Medical.

Dr. Karuman attended National University of Singapore and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery as well as a Master of Medicine in Surgery from National University of Singapore. He was trained as a clinician scientist at Harvard Medical School, completing his PhD and fellowship in the Program for Biological and Biomedical Sciences. He completed his training in general and surgical oncology at the National Cancer Center, Singapore General Hospital. Philip is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and England. And a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Singapore.

In the United States, Philip completed his sub specialization training in Multi-Organ and Liver Transplant Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

He served as an attending liver transplant surgeon at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, our largest liver transplant center for veterans in the USA.

Dr. Karuman did his second surgical residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He then went on to work there as a bariatric and minimal invasive general surgeon.

Dr. Karuman brings many years of experience in general surgery and surgical oncology. His key interests are in robotic and minimally invasive surgery, and surgical treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, in particular hepatobiliary cancers.

At Kern Medical, Dr. Karuman performs General and Surgical Oncology operations.
