Abu Taher, MD,FAAP

About Dr. Taher

Dr. Abu Taher, MD received a Bachelor’s Degree from Nizam College, India and his Medical Doctorate Degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. He went on to complete his internship from 1967 – 1968 at Gandhi Hospital in India and began his residency program at St. Nicholas Hospital in the UK before completing it at Raymond Blank Memorial Hospital for Children in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dr. Taher has extensive teaching experience. He worked as an Instructor in Hematology at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He was part of the Teaching Staff and Attending Pediatrician at Des Moines General Hospital and Mercy Hospital Medical Center. At the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, he was first Assistant Professor, then Associate Professor, and finally Professor of Pediatrics and Hematology/Oncology.

Dr. Taher was the Chairman in Department of Pediatrics at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, and was a Satellite Member of Children’s Cancer Study Group via the University of Iowa. He had access to enroll oncology patients on protocols, had access to newer and investigational drugs, and participated in quarterly meetings to evaluate data. He was also a Consultant in Pediatrics at the Ministry of Health, Government of Saudi Arabia. He worked at the Maternity and Children’s Hospital and was the only consultant for all the hospitals in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He then worked at a Private Practice in Iowa before moving to Bakersfield and joining the faculty as an Associate in Pediatrics. He is a Hematology and Oncology specialist.
