Russell Judd

Kern Medical Chief Executive Officer Russell Judd assumed the health care system’s top leadership post in December 2013, in a return to Kern Medical after serving as an administrator in 1991-96.

As CEO Judd is responsible for all aspects of the 222-bed public hospital, with its 120-member physicians group, multiple outpatient clinics, the region’s only Level II Trauma Center, and six accredited residency programs with over 115 residents and more than 200 medical student rotations in its role as a teaching hospital. Additionally, Judd initiated and completed Kern Medical’s transition from county administrative control to governance as a hospital authority.

He formerly was CEO and President of Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield; and CEO of Berwick Hospital Center in Berwick, Pa., Payson Regional Medical Center in Payson, Ariz., and Barstow Community Hospital in Barstow.

Judd has a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development from Brigham Young University and a Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration from California State University-Bakersfield.

He is involved in a range of community activities including serving as president, Regional Economic Development Corp.; chair, American Red Cross local chapter; executive board member, Boy Scouts of America and Chamber of Commerce; Rotary International member; and church leader. He is a Certified Health Care Executive and a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives.

He enjoys running, fly-fishing, the outdoors, and most of all being a husband and father.
