Dr. Jeffrey Nalesnik
Vice Chair, Department of Surgery, Chief, Division of Urology, and Director, Robotic Surgical Services.
I feel that healthy living and preventive care are the best ways to stay healthy, but I’m also dedicated to helping you when you are sick. I want to be your partner in your urologic health.
I am a native of Massachusetts and moved to Bakersfield in 2009. I was privileged to serve in the United States Air Force for 17 years as a urologist and flight surgeon. I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts and my basic medical education at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. My surgery and urology training was completed at the Air Force’s Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
I served as the chief of urology at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in western Germany, which is the largest American hospital outside of the United States, and at the United States Air Force combat hospital in Balad, Iraq. I received an honorable discharge in 2009 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
I currently reside in Bakersfield with my wife and three sons. We are all very happy to be part of the Bakersfield community. We stay balanced together through our faith and family unity.

I’m happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my practice. I feel very fortunate to work at Kern Medical because of my wonderful colleagues and the patient population we serve, and I look forward to working with you to care for your health.
I am a native Southern Californian who moved away to St. Louis, MO, and Charleston, SC, for medical school and residency training in urology. It was always my goal to come back home to practice medicine and help the people and the communities of California.
About my practice
Practicing urology affords me the opportunity to be your partner in health and to develop long-lasting relationships with each of you by connecting with you, earning your trust, and taking care of your needs.
How I thrive
Keeping balance in my life is very important to me. I enjoy watching sports, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

I’m happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you. I completed my fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in 2012, subsequently worked as a Kaiser Permanente physician for 3 years before joining Kern Medical in 2016. I believe in the idea of serving a community as a whole and making an impact in providing advanced urological care with compassion. It’s very important that you feel comfortable with your personal physician, and I hope this page will help you start to know me.
I completed my Bachelor of Science degree at Georgia State University as a distinguished Magna Cum Laude graduate and attended medical school at the University of Texas, Galveston (UTMB). I started my residency in 2004 at Brookdale University Hospital (Brooklyn, NY) with two years of general surgery training followed by four years of urology residency.
During my residency I was involved in a number of research projects that placed me second in basic science research among 100 participants at the Ferdinand C Valentine competition in 2008. Prior to completing my residency training in 2010, I had three peer reviewed articles published, a number of podium presentations at our national conference and involved myself in a number of volunteer services providing cancer screening for prostate cancer. Additionally, I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering, which exposed me to high quality urological cancer care.
My constant desire to better myself as a physician and refine my surgical skills landed me at the Cleveland Clinic from 2010-2012, where I completed my fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery and robotics. More than 80 percent of our procedures were cancer operations, providing me with a strong understanding of oncological surgery and overall treatment for complex cancers. Furthermore, I was exposed to a high volume of reconstructive procedures performed with minimally invasive techniques. Besides my surgical training at the Cleveland Clinic, I was involved in over 50 published research articles in peer reviewed journals along with a book chapter in Robotic Urological Surgery. I co-invented a deployable adjustable pneumatic occlusion device and wrote two IRB’s (Institutional Review Board) to conduct human research. Moreover, I served as a faculty training urologist in advanced surgical procedures at several courses in single port, robotic and cryosurgery.
