Jeffrey Nalesnik, MD
Vice Chair, Department of Surgery
Chief, Division of Urology
Director, Robotic Surgical Services
Hello, I’m Dr. Jeffrey Nalesnik, the lead of Kern Medical’s new urology specialty group.
I also carry the titles of Vice Chair, Department of Surgery, Chief, Division of Urology, and Director, Robotic Surgical Services.
I moved to Kern Medical in January 2016 after heading the urology unit at Kaiser Permanente in Bakersfield. Two of my colleagues came with me to form Kern Medical’s new specialty team.
I am is a native of Massachusetts and moved to Bakersfield in 2009. I proudly served in the United States Air Force for 17 years as a urologist and flight surgeon.
I reside in Bakersfield with my wife, who grew up here, and our three sons. We are all very happy to be part of the Bakersfield community. We stay balanced together through our faith and family unity.
We’re active in the Basque Club and appreciate that our sons are attending the same school (St. Francis) that their uncle and grandfather attended.
I enjoy shooting skeet and sporting clays. I value Bakersfield’s location that provides proximity to both beaches – where I surf and enjoy stand-up paddle boarding — and mountains.
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts and my basic medical education at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
I then completed my surgery and urology training at the Air Force’s Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. I served as the chief of urology at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in western Germany, which is the largest American hospital outside of the United States, and at the United States Air Force combat hospital in Balad, Iraq. I received an honorable discharge in 2009 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
I was chief of urology at Kaiser Permanente in Bakersfield and also operated at San Joaquin Community Hospital, where I was director of robotic surgery, and Bakersfield Memorial Hospital before moving to Kern Medical in January 2016.
My Clinical Interests
I love the field of urology and especially robotic surgery.
I have been able to introduce many new robotic and minimally invasive surgery techniques to our community.
I feel that healthy living and preventive care are the best ways to stay healthy, but I’m also dedicated to helping you when you are sick. I want to be your partner in your urologic health.
