About Dr. James

Dr. Robert James, MD, PHD is a Board Certified Pathologist at Kern Medical. He has licensure in California, Arizona, and Nevada.

Dr. James received his MS, Microbiology and PHD, Physiology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He completed his Residency training in Clinical Pathology from Yale-New Haven Hospital. He completed his Fellowship in Blood Banking from the University of California in San Diego. He was awarded the Michigan Heart Association Research Award and received second place in the Los Angeles Pathology Society Resident Symposium.

Dr. James is Board Certified by the American Board of Pathology in both Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology. He also received a subspecialty certification in Blood Banking Sciences.

Prior to practicing at Kern Medical, Dr. James was the Director of Laboratories at the Ventura County Medical Center. He was the Medical Director at the United Blood Services of Ventura County, and an Inspector at the Laboratory Accreditation Program at the College of American Pathologists. He was both a Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Southern California.

Dr. James is an avid learner and his major areas of research interest include Platelet and coagulation factor alternations induced by acute trauma, Platelet involvement in the pathogenesis of strokes, and the usefulness of pheresis in disease states.
