Kern Medical offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient surgical services, with a focus on new patient-centered technologies such as laser and laparoscopic procedures.
And we know what you’re going through. Surgical teams throughout Kern Medical understand that any type of surgery can cause anxiety. We work closely with our patients and their families to provide comfort and reassurance as well as educational information about what to expect before, during, and after surgery.
We offer a full range of surgical services, including the latest noninvasive techniques. Surgeons, anesthesiologists and surgical services staff are available 24 hours a day, offering expert, compassionate care. Friends and family are welcome during preparation and recovery, because we recognize and value their importance in providing support and recovery care.
Our board-certified general surgeons are highly skilled in procedures involving the stomach, esophagus, bowel, liver, pancreas and gall bladder. They also treat patients with thyroid gland conditions, hernias simple, complex, and recurring, and diseases involving the skin and breast.
Our specialty surgeons provide services including orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, breast surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, plastic and reconstructive surgery, podiatric surgery, hand surgery, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology.
We offer a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to benign and malignant diseases of the breast, with teams of skilled breast surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and plastic surgeons that specialize in breast reconstruction.
In diagnosing and treating head and neck tumors, our teams of otolaryngologists, oncologists, plastic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and radiologists collaborate to achieve our mission to heal while sparing surrounding tissue and organs.
Likewise, our hepatobiliary and pancreatic program offers seamless care from hepatobiliary surgeons, diagnostic radiologists, interventional radiologists, medical oncologists, gastroenterologists and anesthesiologists.
Our orthopedic trauma services are a regional resource for physicians challenged by complex orthopedic cases, both acute and chronic.
And our innovative bariatric weight-loss procedures offer the latest methods for swift recovery and minimal risk of complications.
It’s no surprise that we’re a widely respected teaching hospital, and our fully accredited five-year General Surgery Residency program graduates two chief residents each June. While our program is freestanding, we partner with other hospitals in Bakersfield as well as Valley Children’s Hospital, Community Regional Medical Center (Fresno) and UCLA.
Meanwhile, our surgery faculty works hard to enhance the Surgical Department’s expertise, range and size by recruiting surgeons who exemplify our commitment to excellence through their training at some of the nation’s premier universities. Many are nationally and internationally recognized in their areas of expertise, as evidenced through their active participation in surgical societies, service on specialty boards, and contributions on editorial boards for peer-reviewed journals.
In serving our community, Kern Medical is focused on the future. New programs – such as head and neck oncology, skull-based surgery, breast oncology, robotic surgery and innovative laparoscopic teaching – reflect the medical advancements that will continue to reshape our department. They also allow us to continue to build strong academic relationships such as our long-standing ties with UCLA, as well as solid clinical ties with our local physicians.
As part of our dedication to the highest surgical standards, we are proud to be a valued community resource working with referring physicians to deliver the best and most cost-effective health care for patients and their families.
