The primary teaching hospital for our residents is Kern Medical in Bakersfield, Calif. While on the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service, our residents have much autonomy, yet the faculty are in-house and available 24 hours a day.
Here, residents experience all aspects of OB-GYN through labor and delivery, the operating room for gynecological surgeries, and outpatient clinics. Our hospital also has 24-hour in-house anesthesia support both for scheduled and emergent procedures and surgeries.
Our department prides itself in managing a high volume of deliveries (approximately 3,500 per year) with about 70 percent of them high-risk. We also perform extensive gynecological procedures and surgeries. Our Continuity Care Clinics are set up to simulate private practice, and we make every effort for each patient to establish a relationship with the same physician.
Outside of Kern Medical, our residents have opportunities to rotate through other medical institutions including Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, Mercy Medical Center, San Joaquin Community Hospital, and Adventist Medical Center in Hanford.
