Sudhagar Thangarasu, MD

Dr. Sudhagar Thangarasu is a board-certified internist who has served as a hospitalist, care unit director and full-time college faculty member.
Dr. Thangarasu has extensive hands-on experience caring for a wide variety of diseases, levels of acuity and patient populations. He is skilled at consult team innovation covering design, implementation and supervision.
He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree, equivalent to a U.S. medical degree, from Stanley Medical College, the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University, in Chennai, India. He completed his residency in categorical internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Dr. Thangarasu is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine and the American College of Physicians.
As a resident he was one of three lead hospitalists in a multi-center project mentored by the Society of Hospital Medicine. He conducted a geriatrics lecture series and participated in resident rotation curriculum design.
As an administrator, he has filled in for the section director as needed, interviewing future faculty, helping new and junior faculty with Electronic Health Records, billing and coding, and compliance. He has planned, scheduled and coordinated monthly Continuing Medical Education sessions in acute care medicine.
As Comprehensive Care Unit Medical Director, Dr. Thangarasu served as physician leader with duties covering patient care, patient-family-staff-physician relations, inpatient safety protocols, nursing education, and training. He has participated in medical research and contributed to publications and oral and poster presentations.
He received the Best Poster Award at the 2008 International Emergency Medicine Conference in Salem, India, and was recognized as Best Junior Doctor and Outstanding Performer for 2006 at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Maldives.
